Homemade toothpaste. Game changer! As you know, I am an avid coconut oil user particularly for oil pulling. Since coconut oil has antimicrobial, antibacterial, and anti fungal properties, it makes it the perfect ingredient for toothpaste.
Here’s the thing: fluoride is toxic. And, look what the foaming agent, laurel sulfate in toothpaste in toothpaste does:
This recipe contains doTERRA peppermint essential oil that my friend Julie at My Life’s Essentials sent me to try out. One of the many benefits of this essential oil company is that their oils are so pure that they can be used internally for recipes such as toothpaste!
It is sweetened with stevia and combined with baking soda. The recipe is below and what I also do after brushing is rinsing my mouth with diluted 3% peroxide for a little extra whitening action!
- ½ cup baking soda
- ½ cup organic coconut oil
- 6-8 drops doTerra peppermint oil
- Stevia to taste
- Blend all ingredients together and store in individual jars
Now it’s your turn. Have you made your own toothpaste before? Why or why not?
