I’ve seen a lot of teas out there that say that they can make you “skinny”, leaner, lose weight, etc. And, honestly, I never actually bought into the gimmick of it. Any nutritionist will tell you that weight loss has much to do with balance in your food, exercise and lifestyle. If those don’t work, then we look at potential imbalances in the body. That’s it. That’s the recipe. Wholy Tea is a whole different ball game. I actually started with the Detox & Cleanse version as the timing of it was perfect – two week’s before Christmas.
Wholy Tea is made with milk thistle, a natural herb that has been used for thousand’s of years. It is particularly beneficial for the liver which, in most nutritionist’s opinion, an organ to always keep in optimal health. With the amount of burden we put on our liver through processed foods, chemicals, artificial flavourings and so on, it can help with rebuilding liver cells while removing toxins from the body that are processed through the liver. Milk thistle has many other benefits which you can learn more about here.
There are additional herbs in the blend that provide both liver and bowel cleansing which I found intriguing which also supported it’s claim to be a detox and cleanse program. Each box contains a Healthy Eating Meal Options for a two week plan. I didn’t follow the program but, in my opinion, it appeared to be a balanced, approachable, and nutritious meal plan.
Drinking the tea itself was simple. One cup in the morning and one cup in the evening. The flavour is herbaceous but very light, making it quite easy to drink. The regular Wholy Tea (noted in the picture above) has white and green tea. And, although I don’t know how much caffeine it would contain, my feeling is that it is light enough that it is not disruption to sleep.
Now, here’s where it got interesting for me. The Wholy Tea flushed me out. Like I was going to the bathroom more regularly than before. Although the company says that the product does not promote diarrhea but rather, “loosens stool”, I was found rushing to the bathroom hoping that no one would stop me along the way. I even woke up in the middle of the night having the urge to go. Yup, I went there! (I actually have no shame talking about bowel movements, by the way).
On the flip side, I felt lighter and maybe that’s for obvious reasons. My stomach was never bloated which was often an issue for me. I had a good amount of energy that I noticed increased and I did notice that I was sleeping better. These are likely a result of a proper liver detoxification and bowel cleansing.
In a nutshell, I hate to call this a bubblegum “detox tea” but I understand that these types of products do need to be marketed this way. At the same time, I truly enjoyed the product because the benefits are vast for overall health. I would definitely promote to this to someone who needed to find an accompaniment to their detoxification, cleansing, or perhaps weight loss program for those reasons alone.
You can buy Wholy Tea through Innotech Nutrition, a terrific Canadian and family-run company. They can also be found on Facebook and Instagram too! If you’re looking for the Detox & Cleanse version, you can get it here.
