I always say that we put so much emphasis on the foods that we eat, the amount of exercise we should get, and making sure that we get those 8 hours of zzzz’s a night. Don’t get me wrong, that’s really REALLY important.
But, we gotta start taking a look at those products that we use in our homes that are really contributing to the issues that we may be having in our health.
Ladies, there are hundreds of commercial chemicals that we use in our homes that are loaded with hormone disrupters that are really messing up our reproductive system. Many of your most reputable cleaning products are doing you harm.
I know it’s hard. We don’t necessarily see the physical effects like we would if we ate a Big Mac (cue: guilt). However, immediate effects could be headaches or mild to severe allergic reactions that we may not necessarily link to the products in our home. Long term effects are linked to autoimmune diseases to reproductive issues such as infertility.
The great thing is that once you start removing these chemicals from your home and switching them with more natural cleaning products, your body is able to naturally detoxify your body like it was meant to.
But, I will tell you that this one change alone is, first, the most simple to make. Two, it’s very inexpensive and it will save you money in the long run. And, finally, it’s just simply an important step to detox your home for both yourself and your family.
The recipes below are my three go-to favourites. I used to make my own laundry detergent but my husband hated how soft it made his clothes?!?!? I know. In any case, we don’t do laundry every day so investing in a quality, non-toxic detergent is still worth it for us.
But these really work. They are just as effective as a store-bought version. And, definitely, if it’s easier for you to pick something toxic-free instead of you own, go to it! I just know that many of you feel empowered when you are creating.
A note of essential oils: although they are not required for each recipe, I do encourage you to invest in something like melaleuca/tea tree or a citrus such as lemon or orange. The reason I recommend is that all essential oils have therapeutic properties to them. In the case of tea tree and citrus essential oils, they have antibacterial, and anti fungal benefits to them so they will add additional cleaning benefits to the product that you use.
