There is one cup of spinach in this smoothie. I managed to get my husband to slurp this up without a whimper about the greenness of the flavours. It’s not that he hates greens (spinach actually is his favourite salad green), he’s just opposed to it in his smoothies.
My biggest trick and tip is to blend your smoothies with a great big handful of spinach or romaine. You will not taste it so why wouldn’t you do so? But, this is a mint smoothie after all, and the minty taste will be the prominent flavour. Yum!
I incorporated North Coast Naturals Hemp Protein to go along with the green theme of this smoothie (you can use any type of protein powder actually). The amazing benefits of hemp:
~ A 1.5-tablespoon serving of hemp seeds contains five grams of protein, 86 milligrams of magnesium, 10 percent daily value of iron, 1245 milligrams of Omega-3 fatty acids and 436 milligrams of Omega-6 fatty acids.
~ Hemp seeds contain all ten of the essential amino acids and they support a healthy metabolism and they are awesome for skin, hair and nails.
~ Hemp seeds contain anti-aging antioxidants such as vitamin E. And, they’re also rich in other minerals such as zinc and phosphorus.
Now, let’s get to the smoothie.
2 cups of non-dairy milk
1 banana, frozen ideally
1 avocado, frozen ideally
1 cup of spinach
1 scoop of vanilla hemp powder (or any powder of your choice)
1/3 cup of cacao nibs
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
2-3 drops of peppermint essential oil (I like DoTerra) or peppermint extract or fresh mint leaves
Blend and serve
