Spiced Ginger Pear Smoothie

Here’s what may surprise you about this Spiced Ginger Pear Smoothie.  You can actually serve it warm if you want to.  I mean, why the heck not?

Now, pears are not always in season so you could do one of two things here:  swap the pear for an apple and if you have a high powered blender, it should do the drink.  BUT, to make it smoother and richer, take a cup of organic apple sauce, and you’ll be in good shape.


2 ripe pears, peeled (or use apples or apple sauce as suggested above)
1 1/2 cups of almond milk
3 tablespoons of nut butter ideally sunflower seed or almond butter
1 tablespoon of ground flax seed (optional)
1 inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 pinch of nutmeg
1 tablespoon of molasses or maple syrup (extra if you like it sweeter)
1 banana (optional: but I find it adds a thicker consistency)


Blend & serve

Warm: if you would like it warm, blend everything and add to a sauce pot and heat until warm.
