I’ve just returned from a trip back home where I was in Ottawa, Toronto and my hometown of Barry’s Bay, Ontario. Needless to say it was a little glutinous. It’s not that I necessarily ate bad, except that my family ALWAYS has desserts on the table after a meal. I snuck a few bites of ice cream or chocolate zucchini cake or those homemade butter tarts. Oh, and then I also indulged in some wine…
Needless to say, my body needed a little reset. I’m also less than a month away from a trip to Los Angeles and Palm Springs so I need to give my body a little break.
Oh, and I’ve also stopped drinking coffee to give my liver and adrenals a reset so keep your eyes open on a new recipe next week!
The maker’s of FLORA, an awesome natural foods and supplement company, have a new greens powder out called Beyond Greens®. In perfect timing for my fall reset, this powder includes gluten-free cereal grasses along with broccoli, kale and a variety of other super greens that are rich in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. One scoop includes 2 servings of vegetables y’all!
I also like that the greens are fermented, making it easier to digest and loaded with naturally-occuring probiotics. It’s also organic, non-GMO, vegetarian, and soy free.
Now, let’s get started on this recipe. Beyond the greens powder (did you catch that?), I’ve added some healthy fats from the avocado and coconut oil and fibre from the flax seed/oil as these two ingredients are super important when trying to reset your system. Adding some form of fat to your smoothie aids your body in absorbing all the nutrients.
Honey is also an additional here as it has some immune boosting properties to it and it also adds a little sweetness to it but you can always omit it. I also added some vanilla protein powder as this smoothie is my breakfast of choice so adding a little more protein helps to sustain me better throughout the morning. Again, these are all just optional choices.
1 scoop of Flora’s Beyond Greens
1 scoop of vanilla protein powder (optional)
1 tsp of coconut oil (optional)
1 T of ground flax seeds or oil
1-2 tsp of honey or sweetener of choice
1.5 cups of almond milk
Blend and Serve!
