How To Make Homemade Ghee

IMG_5667

I don’t know about you but I’m all about trying to make as much as I possibly can in my own home. From GRAIN FREE GRANOLA, to GRAIN FREE GRANOLA BARS, SMOOTHIES and DAIRY FREE PUMPKIN SPICED LATTES, and TURMERIC TEA LATTES, I want to be able to see and control what I am putting into my body. The same goes for ghee.  But, I understand that most people may not know what ghee is, never mind assume that it’s only for Indian food! (That’s what I thought too!)

5 Things That I Do Daily For Healthy, Vibrant Skin

Healthy & Vibrant Skin

It’s Sunday morning and I’m in a Seattle coffee shop after waking from a deep, restful sleep in my hotel room. James and I often go to Seattle (Bellevue to be exact) to start the holiday season off.  If you’re in the area, Bellevue starts their annual Snowflake parade which just zaps you into the holiday spirit immediately! We’re also here to do a little bit of shopping too and to relax before the craziness of the holidays begin.

The weather in Vancouver has been crazy gloomy. It has literally (at this point anyways) rained for over 30 days.  No sunlight for 30 days!  So, I’ve been making sure that I’m getting my daily vitamin D and omega fatty acids to make sure that my immune system is still strong despite this shitty weather.

Healing Beauty Mist

One of the biggest and most impactful changes that I made to my health was when I detoxed my beauty products. Through my own personal study of health, I quickly learned how important it was for me to take a look at what I was putting on my skin.

Many of the chemicals found in your over-the-counter beauty elixirs can wreak havoc on your health. Research has shown that there are certain chemicals that may cause long-term, gradual changes to your health with hormonal imbalances being one of them. Repeated exposures can even cause you to develop an allergy.

This recipe calls for Aloe Vera Juice and Witch Hazel. Both are readily available at most health stores and they have the ability to soothe, refresh and rejuvenate your skin. Rose Water is full of antioxidants, decreases inflammation and also has the ability hydrate the skin.

I’m in love with essential oils and I have found pure grade, organic essential oils critical to my beauty care. My three favorites are:

Frankincense, which may help to reduce the appearance of blemishes and rejuvenate the skin. And both geranium and lavender, which have soothing abilities for occasional skin irritations and may reduce the appearance of skin imperfections.

Healing Beauty Mist
2 parts distilled or clean filtered water
1 part medicinal aloe vera juice and/or witch hazel
1 part rose water
2-3 drops of pure essential oils such as lavender, frankincense or geranium

Mix all ingredients in a small, dark glass spray bottle. Spray onto face after freshly washing your skin, after sun exposure or to hydrate your skin throughout the day!
