I woke up this morning with a sore throat and somehow, I gained a fever overnight. Not a good situation and I ended up taking the day off work which hadn’t happened in forever! It became apparent to me that the past couple of weeks were taxing on my body – I had some big changes at work, spreading myself too thin, and so on. You know, normal everyday stuff, right?
Am I being dramatic here? Well, let me explain here…
Back in 2010, when my health was at it’s worst, I didn’t know what to do. I was living a very high stress lifestyle. Although I moderately ate my best and my body was craving a more vegetarian eating lifestyle, the stress I was experiencing superseded it all. I was working a minimum of 12 hour days, during an Olympic project that was beyond cray-cray. Trying to manage the level of work was near impossible.
“Julie, are you okay”. My husband asked. We were having our usual weekend long coffee in a local coffee shop. It’s a weekly tradition for us both to sit for a good hour or two where I catch up on emails, newsletters, blog posts etc. “Why?” I ask. “You just seem ‘out of it'”. Lethagic, low energy, distant.
You may have noticed that I talk about anxiety and sleep on this site. A few years ago I spoke with Dr. Divi Chandna, a physician of mind-body medicine about both depression and anxiety. It was pretty profound. I even talk about it in my intro video to EatLifeBalance.com where my stressful corporate job and an unbalanced lifestyle led me to anxiety issues. And, over this summer, I wrote a post on the 10 Ways To Upgrade Your Sleep – these are my essential must have’s for the healthiest zzzz’s.
I’ve seen a lot of teas out there that say that they can make you “skinny”, leaner, lose weight, etc. And, honestly, I never actually bought into the gimmick of it. Any nutritionist will tell you that weight loss has much to do with balance in your food, exercise and lifestyle. If those don’t work, then we look at potential imbalances in the body. That’s it. That’s the recipe. Wholy Tea is a whole different ball game. I actually started with the Detox & Cleanse version as the timing of it was perfect – two week’s before Christmas.
Have you heard of oil pulling? It sounds like such a highly technical term but it is the easiest step that you can take for a healthier (and even whiter) smile. In fact, oil pulling is several healthy properties to this ancient practice:
Make no mistake, toxins are everywhere! Some things we have absolutely no control over such as environmental pollution. But, then there are ways we can definitely make more conscious choices especially when it comes to our diet, the chemicals that we use to clean our home, the products that we use on our skin, and the products that we use for our dental care.
I’m back with all my favourite products that I was introduced to or loving this summer! We’ve got a supplement to support digestive health and to improve the health of your skin, hair and nails (it’s also a bulletproof coffee / fat fuelled coffee favourite!). A detox tea that tastes so delicious that you won’t even know that it’s cleansing you from the inside. My new favourite nutritional shake (and I never thought I would be swayed from my favourite). And, two supplements to help all you career-driven women with your digestion woes!

Those of you might remember that I ate a primarily plant-based diet (ie. vegan) for about 5-6 years. It was actually one of the best decisions as my body was dying for nutrients that a 100% plant-based eating lifestyle can provide. At the time, my stress levels were overflowing and the boost of vitamins and nutrients were helpful in healing.
